Did you know:

  • Ninety percent of the United States’ disco balls are produced in Louisville each year?
  • There are 1,300 animals at the 134-acre Louisville Zoo?
  • There are several dog friendly parks that you can visit, including the following three?

1. Beckley Creek Park – Beckley Creek Road (map), 502-584-0350

Aptly named “The Barklands of Beckley Creek Park,” this off-leash dog park is run by the Louisville Dog Run Association (LDRA) and requires membership for entry. According to the site, “The area is divided into three areas: ‘Small Dog,’ ‘All Dog’ and a resting area, which will be rotated frequently.” The fenced dog park is located near the northwest corner of the Egg Lawn. The park features a key fob entry system (remote key-less system for access control) and mini green fire hydrants to entice your pooch. Check out some happy pooches here.

2. Champions Park – 2050 River Rd. (River Road and Edith Avenue) (map)

“The pawpular spot is the first facility in this new park and spreads out over 3.6 acres of the former River Road Country Club site,” according to the park’s website. The park features separate “All Dog” and “Small Dog” sides. There is drinking water available and plenty of space for pooches to run around and play.

3. Sawyer Dog Park – 3111 Freys Hill Rd. (map), (502) 245-229

Sawyer Park has six acres of land dedicated to pooches: two acres for small dogs and four for large dogs. The park is separated into two parts, with a chain-link fence that has two large openings — one in the front and one in the back. Yelp! reviewer Emily W. says, “Sawyer is massive and there is so much wooded and shady area. Paying a mere $30 a year for exercise for your dog and being provided with unlimited entertainment is one of the best deals in town. Every dog owner in town should have a membership!” Check out some cute photos of the happy pooches here.
