Clik here to view.It’s always tough to get back to the grind of working out after the holidays. If you’re looking for a great way to work off those holiday pounds with your pooch, you might want to try one of these pawesome 5K runs in January.
1. Run With The Dogs – Frostbite 5K Event– Decatur High School, Decatur, Ga. – Sat., Jan. 12, 9 a.m.
Participants are invited to run or walk with their dogs in a special group. Participating dogs will receive a special prize. It’s $25 to pre-register by January 5, after which the fee jumps to $30. All proceeds will be used to help fund the sports programs at Decatur High School and Renfroe Middle School.
2. 3rd Annual Dog Gone Cold 5K Run/Walk – Julian Smith BBQ Pit, Augusta, Ga. – Sat., Jan. 19, 10 a.m.
This event, a benefit for Hopeful Hounds, Inc. and the American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue (ABTCR), is sponsored by Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue. A 1-mile fun run begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk. Awards will be given to the top two male and female dog competitors. Dogs are welcome, but be courteous of fellow runners without dogs. All dogs must be leashed, well socialized and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Many local rescue groups will have adoptable dogs at the event. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25 (includes a T-shirt) or $20 through January 11, and $30 (includes a T-shirt) or $25 after Jan. 11.
3. The Humane Society Naples7th Annual Run for the Paws – Naples Municipal Airport, Naples, Fla. – Sat., Jan. 26, 8 a.m.
Coordinated by the Gulf Coast Runners, Run for the Paws benefits the more than 2,200 animals taken in each year by the Humane Society Naples (HSN). Pet parents and their pooches can run or walk with their dogs to help raise money for these homeless animals. Create a team and a fundraising page, and the top fundraising teams will receive awards and other special goodies at the event. Shirts are only guaranteed for the first 500 registered.
